KELE FLEMING

Kele Fleming is a deeply gifted singer-songwriter who resides in British Columbia. Kele gracefully weaves the vulnerability of traditional folk with the raw power of rock and roll.

Tinnitist says: “…the prolific Victoria singer-songwriter continues to offer truth, inclusion, honestly and reality in a world that is increasingly phony, disconnected, misleading and artificial.” - Darryl Sterdan

Molly Bloom’s Monologue -  I wrote this song in the early 1990’s against a cultural and political backdrop that included the impact of of the AIDS epidemic of the 1980’s on the LGBTQ+ community, the birth of the Internet, the rise of grunge and the super stardom of Nirvana, NAFTA, the first Gulf War, the dawning of climate change awareness with the release of the first IPCC Assessment Report, the publication of Michael Turner’s book ‘Hard Core Logo’ about a documentary team that follows the reunion of Hard Core Logo, a once-popular punk rock band and the entry of the Terminator into American politics. What a time to be making music!

The song, when written, was railing against the injustices of the day. It is sobering and frightening to look back 30 years and realize that we are grappling with the very same issues only on a much larger and more urgent scale.

Kele Fleming is the distinct love-child of Linda Perhacs and Ani Difranco. She’s 70’s psychedelic, feministic and intelligent. Kele’s dynamic vocals range from choirgirl naivete to raging Sinead O’Connor. Her profound lyrics are calls to action.
